LAST year’s leaver Jay Herbert (St. John, ’25) has earned a football scholarship with Rocky Mountain College in Montana, USA.

The talented teenager, who starred at first-team level in both football and rugby while at The Oratory School, will head across the pond in the autumn.

Jay’s chance has come through his club Reading City’s partnership with US Sports Scholarships.

The initiative is designed to provide players with greater access to the American college pathway, with former Woodcote FC ace Jay ready for an exciting next step.

The versatile 19-year-old is equally adept playing in defence or attack, and has racked up more than 40 Reading City first-team appearances since joining ahead of the 2023/24 season.

He has also twice been named Under 18s Manager’s Player of the Year.
