‘‘The objects of the Society shall be: first, to promote the interests of the Oratory School; second, to perpetuate associations among the Members and encourage activities among the Members aligned with the interests of the Society and the Oratory School.’’

Founded in 1847, The Oratory School Society seeks to foster lifelong engagement amongst Old Oratorians and supports the school through various activities. It actions this through The OSS Committee.

The OSS Committee

The Oratory School Society Committee provides support to the Alumni and Development Office, organises and funds social events, and manages the Pereira Award. It meets 3 times per year, either in person or via a Teams call, and hosts an annual AGM and dinner in London.

The OSS Committee is chaired by OO and current parent David Connolly (1990/Norris) and has various Old Oratorians as its active members.

The Committee is always looking to welcome new members to bring a more diverse range of expertise and knowledge to the table. If you are connected to The Oratory School (e.g. are an OO, former parent or current parent) and are interested in becoming an OSS Committee member, please get in touch with Trish Lopes via community@oratory.co.uk or reach out to Committee Members Henry Gilbert or David Connolly.

The Pereira Award

The Pereira Award is a monetary award for the Upper Sixth Form and Old Oratorians who wish to undertake an endeavour in the spirit of George Pereira (1865-1923), an Old Oratorian who served in the army as a Brigade Commander (Boxer Rebellion; 2nd Boer War; WWI). Pereira was an impressive explorer, fluent in Mandarin, and was the first European to walk from Beijing to Lhasa.

The award will be considered for any adventurous travel, journey, or activity which is ‘original, shows independent thinking, understanding of different cultures, communities or languages, or is simply in the spirit of Old Oratorian camaraderie. This could be for charity, personal development or for some form of research project.

Our most recent winner is Henry Lale (2009-2016), who completed an expedition into the heart of the Nepali Himalayas. Past winners have included Paul Bettesworth (1996-01,) who completed a 6,200m technical Himalayan Summit Climb – Lobuche Peak in the High Khumbu Valley of Nepal, and James Richardson (2001-08), who ran 200 miles in 20 races.

Deadline for applications is October 1st.
