A brilliant Oratory Music Masterclass took place on Wednesday 24 May with Tenor and Old Oratorian Alex Haigh (OS 1999-2006), who very kindly returned to school to sing with some of our pupils.
Alex started his musical education in Hull University reading Music and Drama. Following this, he has studied with TrinityLaban conservatoire (Masters in Vocal Performance), trained with the Associated Studios in Hammersmith, ENO’s ‘Opera Works’ and The Berlin Opera Academy. He performs regularly as an opera singer, oratorio artist, consort singer and coaches vocal groups as an animateur. He works alongside the National Youth Choirs of Great Britain, The Bach Choir, London Youth Choir and Grange Park Opera as an outreach workshop facilitator.
Alex is a Patron of The Chiltern Centre, an organisation dedicated to providing respite care for young adults with disabilities. He is a lecturer and performer with Opera Prelude, as well as leading their outreach team; organising and delivering concerts in care homes.
On stage, he has worked with Grange Park Opera, The Grange Festival, Merry Opera, Kentish Opera, Guildford Opera, Fulham Opera, Kings Head Theatre, Gothic Opera and Hampstead Garden Opera to name a few. Most recently he sang Le Remendado at Longborough Festival Opera’s Carmen and in concert he will sing Gounod St Cecilia Mass, Mendelssohn Lauda sion, Mozart Requiem and Caspar in Menotti’s Amahl and the Night Visitors this year.
From September 2022, Alex became a full-time member of The Royal Opera Chorus.
With great thanks to Alex for his expert vocal coaching and guidance. It was a joy to listen to all the pupils taking part.
