Multi-Sport All-Weather Pitch Appeal |
WALES Sevens international Morgan MacRae wishes an All-Weather Pitch had been on offer during his time at the school.
Morgan was part of an Oratory first team, also featuring GB and Wasps ace Olise Monye, which enjoyed a successful 15-a-side campaign before Covid sadly wiped out their shot at Sevens success.
But as he reflected on his time in Woodcote, he admitted: “When I was at school and the pitches were unusable due to the weather, we'd often have to go to Langtree.
“But you'd never be sure you'd find a slot, so having an in-built multi-purpose facility at the school will help teams develop and take sport to a new level.
“It will allow so many different teams to train and sports to be played when they wouldn't otherwise have been able to thanks to the English weather!”
He continued: “Academics are a massive part of why you go to school, but sport was kind of everything to me.
“It enabled me to gain so many friendships, provided a release from being in a classroom, and has provided so many qualities which are transferable in all walks of life.”
On punching above its weight on the sporting circuit, Morgan added: “We’ve never been a big school numbers wise, but we've taken on some of the top teams and I always remember from my time, we beat Wellington College A two years in a row, which had never been done before.
“We have a reputation for sport, and others know they'll never have an easy game against Oratory.”
Having gone through the Wasps Academy. Morgan’s story continued after he left the school as he signed an Academy contract with Scarlets, then going onto make his international debut for Wales Sevens in January, 2022.
However, disaster struck as he suffered a serious Achilles injury in the opening game, and having returned to boyhood club Henley Hawks, worse was to follow in August of the following year.
It was then Morgan suffered a cardiac arrest while sleeping, his girlfriend Kitty
