FORMER FitzAlan House Captain Rupert Hague-Holmes (OO 1978-82) recently returned to The Oratory to deliver a Loquitor talk to students.
He spoke to academic award holders and members of the sixth form about his recent biography of the military leader, Lieutenant General Sir George Lea, a ‘first generation Special Forces soldier’ whose career, from trooper to SAS commander, was highly distinguished.
His talk focused on Lea’s quiet manner and charismatic leadership style.
Rupert, who was a Sergeant in the Light Platoon in the CCF during his time at school, has had a lifelong passion for military history and speaks on a diverse range of topics.
A former member of the Law, Adelphi and Windhover societies, Rupert kindly donated a copy of his book, The Soldiers’ General: The Biography of Lieutenant General Sir George Lea (Barnthorn, 2025), to the school library.
During his time in Woodcote, he was also a 1st XV rugby player (colours) and part of the 1st XI for cricket.
*Many thanks to Rupert for such an interesting evening and we look forward to seeing you again for Old Oratorians Day on Friday, June 26.
