A Level Success 2021 for The Oratory

The Oratory School has celebrated a further year of substantial improvement in A Level results with grades at A*-A (73%), A*-B (89%) and A*-C (98%) all showing significant gains on last year; the vast majority of pupils have again gained entry to their first choice universities.

After another year of disruption for pupils there were many very strong individual performances including: Joonmin Choe with 4 A*s plus an A* in the Extended Project (PPE at Warwick); School Captain Alex Vile with 3 A*s plus an A* in the Extended Project (English and History at Exeter); Leo Xia with 3 A*s and an A (Mechanical Engineering at Bristol); Toby Winterbottom with 2 A*s and an A (Exercise and Sports Sciences at Exeter); Junsoo Kim with 2 A*s and an A (Sport Management and Coaching at Bath); Runqi Sun with 2 A*s, 1 A and 1 B (Civil Engineering at UCL). A number of pupils also achieved an impressive A* and 2 A grades including Conor Evans, Alex Farley, Daniel Hillier, Tommy Ilomuanya, Harry Kibble, Archie Mew, Liam Qian, and Charles Wainhouse. There were of course many personal success stories on the morning of the results.

The results for both Art & Design and Photography were again excellent with 100% A*-A in both A Levels, confirming once more The Oratory’s position as one of the leading schools in Art and Design. In other areas there were more excellent departmental performances in: English Literature with 100% A* grades; Chinese (100% A*-A grades); Maths (82% A*-A grades); Further Maths (75% A*-A grades).

The Head Master, Mr Joe Smith says: “I want to pay tribute to this group of young men – our last cohort as a boys-only school – both for these excellent results but more importantly for the incredible character they have shown over their 6th Form years. As well as resilience, they have displayed flexibility in adapting to new ways of learning and assessment against the backdrop of a constantly changing system. I am so pleased for them; there are many real individual success stories in these results and these young men deserve all the praise in the world for their achievements. The Oratory staff too deserve a mention, for the superb way in which they adapted to the demands of the pandemic and kept teaching and supporting our pupils throughout. This is a very happy day for the school and we wish our leavers all the very best as they move on to the next exciting stage of their lives.”

The Oratory GCSE Success 2021

The Oratory School has once again celebrated a successful set of GCSE results, with 23% grade 9s, 44% of grades in the 9-8 category, 60% at 9-7, and 95% at grade 4 or higher.

There were excellent results at the top of the cohort and the highest achievers included: Josh Sidhu who recorded an impressive eleven grade 9s; Kelvin Chow with nine grade 9s plus a 9 in Further Maths; Jungle He who attained nine 9s and two 7s plus an 8 in Further Maths; Nifemi Osuyah with seven 9s and four 8s; Oliver Rae with five 9s, four 8s, and one 7; Charlie Charles who achieved three 9s, four 8s, two 7s and one 6; Albert Stark with one 9, six 8s and three 7s plus an 8 in Further Maths; both Sam Morgan and Fraser Robertson with two 9s, four 8s, three 7s and one 6.

The Head Master, Mr Joe Smith, said in reaction to the results: “Like their U6th Form counterparts whose achievements were celebrated earlier this week, these Year 11 pupils have coped magnificently with the demands of remote learning and the other pressures caused by the pandemic. These fine GCSE grades are a fitting testament to their approach, as well as the outstanding work and pastoral care of their teachers and other staff. We look forward to welcoming almost all of this year group into our 6th Form, where they will be joined by a large number of new pupils.”
